Pizza Day! - Green Pizza with Basil Pesto

Hi guys! You can see from the title what today we are going to be talking about. Yees… pizzaaa! Who doesn't love it? I don't know anyone who would say no to it. Today (9th of February) is the National Pizza Day in U.S but you can surely 'celebrate' it anywhere in the world. That's why we prepared a few different healthy pizza options for you.


We've made three options plus the fourth one is a mixture of leftover ingredients. We tried to make them as healthy as possible and available for everyone, but of course we couldn't make them without cheese, it's all about that melted gouda. All of the options are topped with arugula to give it fresh and crunchy taste. Although they are all tasty our favourite one is the green one, with basil pesto base and filled with veggies as mushrooms, red onion and zucchini, on top fresh greens and sprinkled with pumpkin seeds.
The cook time is estimated per one pizza, though we always baked them two at the same time.


The main dish is Green Pizza with Basil Pesto. We made this type of pizza for the first time - I mean pizza with pesto, not a classic tomato sauce. And with no cheese, so it's perfect for vegans, but also a healthier version for all of us. The pizza crust is very crispy if you roll it thin and the veggies give some freshness. Also the arugula on top is great, it's like a fresh salad on a pizza. But you don't have to add it, for some of you it could have too strong taste.


And Hawaiian Pizza is our favourite... But we made a little change this time and it's delicious! First we added fresh cherry tomatoes - remamber to add them in about half time of baking so they're still juicy. And second experiment is the honey drizzle instead of olive oil. It gives the pizza some sweetness - you really should try it!

Green Pizza with Basil Pesto


Basil Pesto
  • 2 handfuls of fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1/3 tsp salt
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
Ingredients for 1 round pizza (about 30cm)
  • 1/4 pizza dough, from our recipe HERE
  • 1 zucchini, sliced
  • 500 g button mushrooms, sliced
  • handful of arugula
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • handful of pumpkin seeds
  • 2 tbsp oil

  1. For the basil pesto: In a free standing blender add garlic cloves, sunflower seeds and blend. In the next step add basil leaves, salt and olive oil, continue to blend for next 1 - 2 minutes. The texture should be almost smooth, you shoul see small pieces of the seeds.
  2. Prepare the veggies. First wash all of them. Slice zucchini and mushrooms. Red onion can be sliced or diced, as you like.
  3. In a medium pan heat 1 tbsp oil, add mushrooms and stir until lightly brown and you see water around. Soak off mushrooms, be careful, they're hot! Do the same with the zucchini. The purpose is to eliminate as much water as you can, so the pizza will be nice and crispy.
  4. Roll the pizza dough, top with basil pesto. Put zucchini, mushrooms and red onion on the pizza.
  5. Bake in 230for 15-17 minutes or until crisp and golden.
  6. When the pizza is ready, top with handful of arugula and sprinkle with pumpkin seeds.

Hawaiian Twist Pizza


Ingredients for 1 round pizza (about 30cm)
  • 1/4 pizza dough, from our recipe HERE
  • 200 g gouda cheese, grated
  • 8 cherry tomatoes, halved
  • few slices of ham
  • 1 can pineapple, quartered and drained
  • honey drizzle
  • handful of arugula
  • 1/3 TOMATO BASE

  1. Prepare the pizza dough and tomato base from the recipe HERE.
  2. Roll the pizza dough and top with tomato base and gouda cheese. Put ham and pineapple on the pizza.
  3. Bake 230for 10 minutes. Take out of the oven, put halved cherry tomatoes on the pizza and drizzle with honey. You can also add now some fresh herbs as basil or oregano.
  4. Bake the pizza for another 5-7 minutes or until crisp and golden. Take out of the oven and top with handful of fresh arugula.

Supreme Pizza


Ingredients for 1 round pizza (about 30cm)
  • 1/4 pizza dough, from our recipe HERE
  • 200 g gouda cheese, grated
  • green olives
  • sundried tomatoes
  • few slices of ham
  • handful of arugula
  • sprinkle of dried oregano
  • 1/3 TOMATO BASE
  1. Prepare the pizza dough and tomato base from the recipe HERE.
  2. Roll the pizza dough and top with tomato base and gouda cheese. Put ham, green olives and sundried tomatoes on the pizza. Sprinkle with dried oregano.
  3. Bake in 230for 15-17 minutes or until crisp and golden.
  4. When the pizza is ready, top with handful of arugula.
